Six Flags Countdown 6 Days and counting...

Sufmain1

Six days until our trip to Six Flags.  I can't wait.  Here is the low down on one of my favorite rides at the park.

Superman Ultimate Flight

Discover what it's like to be the Man of Steel on Superman: Ultimate Flight - the only coaster of its kind in the Northeast.  Lie face down and soar head-first through a twisted steel track, diving into highly banked curves, spirals and a jaw dropping
, pretzel shaped inverted loop.

  • Experience the sensation of flight
  • Soar from the top of the ride down to a ground-level loop
  • Climb the steep "horseshoe" curve and high-speed spiral, then tumble down a 360-degree in-line roll

Momentum / BNYC Travel Details

Deluxe

Momentum  / BNYC  Travel Details

Our Trip trip to  Mississippi is quickly approaching. We are only a few weeks away at this point, and I am sure there are a fair amount of questions floating around regarding this trip so I have put together this information sheet in hopes of answering some of those questions. Included you will find:

Travel Itinerary and Details

Travel Details:

We will be traveling via Charter Bus from Telford to Hattiesburg MS. The schedule will be as follows.

Departure:
Friday July 20 3:00pm    Meet @ Penn Valley Church
*We will travel throught the night and arrive in Hattiesburg mid morning Saturday July 21st.

Return:
We will leave Momentum on Thursday July 26 after 10pm.
*When Momentum concluds on thursday night we will load the bus and hit the road. This will mean a return to Penn Valley during the afternoon on Friday July 27th. We will communicate the detials of our specific return time as we get closer to Momentum.

Cost:
The cost of travel will be.
           $245.00

This payment is due on July 1st. (please make checks payable to Penn Valley Church) The price does not include money for meals during travel.

Trip to Momentum:      Students will need money for three meals
(This is in case we run late and need to purchase lunch on saturday)
Trip Home:                  Students should plan to have money for three meals

Tips for Travel:

1. As we will have a full bus students are strongly encouraged to minimize their packing. In past years we have occasionally been tight on space. Many of you have also had a long walk to your dorms and should pack only the amount of personal items that you can carry by yourself in one trip. I would recommend one large suitcase and one or at most two smaller backpack sized items.

2. Mp3 Players and other small electronics are permitted on the bus, however these items are not permitted at Momentum. You will need to leave them packed away during the week.
*There will be a variety of activities planned for the trip and students are encouraged to enter in and avoid alienating themselves with their headphones.

3. Snacks and beveraged are permitted on the bus during travel. If you have any other questions regarding Travel or Momentum please feel free to contact me at your convenience.

BNYC / Momentum Transportation

Logoblack

URGENT

Many of you have asked questions about transportation for BNYC/Momentum, to which I have had to give general responses.  This is unfortunatley due to a number of difficulties I have had this year in scheduling transportation.  I hope to give you a full report on Wednesday and send a detailed packet home with everyone planning to attend.  I will also post the same information her on this site as soon as I can.  However, in order to make final arrangments, I need to know how many people are attending.  I have access to an online list from CE National that has the names of all of our registered attendees, this list does not show anyone who is planning to attend but has not yet registered. I need to hear from you by sunday if you are planning to attend, but for some reason have not registered for BNYC/Momentum.   Thanks for your help and patience.

Pastor Mark

New! Sign up for events Online

Nsind4

Yep it's that simple.  You can now add your name to an event sign up list online.  Heres how it works.

1.Click on the calendar to the left.

2. Choose the event you wish to attend.
(Not all events will have sign up lists.  Youth Group and regularly scheduled events or events that take place at the church like the concert do not require a sign up.  But trips like the Beach Trip, Six Flags, Rafting, the Phillies Game etc will have sign up lists.)

3. Click the sign up link.

4. Enter your Name, Email address , and that you accept the invitation to attend.
(there is also a place to choose the number of attendees, so if you plan to bring a friend you can enter them that way or they can sign up themselves.)

It's that simple.

*As this is just starting I don't expect that everyone will sign up this way, but I would like to move in this direction for the fall.  And eventually run all of our sign ups online this way.  So please check it out and try it out.

Current Events: CNET's James Kim

120606_james

I'm not sure how many of you have followed this story.  Last month James Kim and his family left home on a road trip like any other family might during the holidays.  Unfortunately for them they found themselves hopelessly lost in the Pacific North West.  Just a few days ago Jame's wife and two girls were found alive and well, while just about a day later James was contacted and located, but by the time the rescue teams made it to him he had died of exposure.  It is a sad story of tragedy and heroism.  You see James found himslef and his family in great trouble and decided to venture out to save their lives.  He walked for miles in search of help but in the end did not find it in time for himself.  My heart goes out to his family and friends who are facing such a tragic loss.

I can't hlep but think what it must have been like for him.  Being stranded looking for help.  Hoping for rescue.  But then it isn't long before my mind starts to wonder what I would do in a situation like that.  Would I have known what to do?  Where to go?  How to survive?  I begin to daydream about what it would be like to have my families life hanging in the balance and venturing out in an effort to save them.  I know what I would like to think I would do.  I would like to think that I would somehow find a way to provide for my family and provide rescue for all of us.  Do you ever wonder about things like that.  What would happen if...

Maybe you can identify with this one.  Have you ever been in an increasingly tense situation as an observer or participant.  Where you are on the edge of or near a major altercation.  You can see the blood boiling below the surface and you are wondering what little thing is going to tip the scale and set this whole thing off.  In the same moment you are playing the scenario our in your mind wondering what you will do.  If that person comes at me... if that person gets in trouble... if this goes that way... what will I do?  I find myself having these thoughts from time to time.  What would I do if?

But it isn't long before my thoughts turn to the here and now with the same urgency.  What am I doing now.  Am I responding correctly to the situations I am actually living in?  If I am not heroic in the day to day, how can i expect to be so in the extreme situations.  If I am not consistent here and now, how can I expect to be when pressure is introduced?  Am I who I dream of being in the difficult moments? Or am I just a dreamer?

The Bible tells me to be ready in and out of season.  In other words, I should always be ready to give an answer for the hope that I have.  In the heat of the moment, in the cool of the refridgeration isle at the grocery store, looking for a video to rent or navigating crowds at the mall.  I should always be ready to answer those who wonder about my faith, but even more than that I should always be ready to live out the actions of my faith.  The good life that adorns a life of faith.  So am I taking action to help, defend, seeking justice, loving mercy, being gracious and patient?  If I want to be that Guy in the moment, I have to fill the moments of my life with that kind of Guy's actions.  We can be joyful we have the Holy spirit working that very thing into our life, if we will only tune in, listen, and respond to his direction. It isn't so much a question of what would I do if... It is a question of what do I do when.

What do you think?
